Cook's Impact Academy teaches children fundamentals of every art that
is offered by Cook's Impact for self defense while promoting good
behavior at home and school.
After learning the basics of each art your child can then focus on one
or multiple arts to study and become proficient in increasing levels
of knowledge.
We will have progress reports that will be sent home for the parents
and teachers review and comments to that we can work together for
the best interest of each child.
Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a contact combat sport that allows a
wide variety of fighting techniques, from a mixture of martial arts
traditions and non-traditions, to be used in competitions. The
rules allow the use of striking and grappling techniques, both while
standing and on the ground. Such competitions allow martial artists
of different backgrounds to compete.
What day and time are classes held?
We have a normal weekly
Our Kid's MMA is scheduled at the same time as our
class for adults; so come on out and get fit while your child learns martial arts.
Are the classes suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. No previous experience is necessary; our instructors
are able to work with students of any skill level.
We have students of all ages and abilities. Each student has their own
unique skill set and talents.
Look to your child's Instructor for guidance on specific goals.
Whether the goal is self-defense or to simply become competent, gain
confidence, and improve your child's self-esteem, Cook's Impact Academy can help!
What do your students wear?
T-shirt and shorts or sweats for the first 30 days. Then the student must
through Cook's Impact Academy.
Do students need special gear for this class?
Gear-wise, we have a collection of equipment on-hand for new students to
borrow—so you can get started right away. After 30 days of
membership, we ask that our students purchase their own basic equipment (so our spare
equipment is always available for new students).
You can find the complete list of
here.
What equipment do students work with?
Students will work with the following equipment:
Heavy bag
Speed bag
Timing ball
Medicine ball
Focus mitts
Kicking shield
Full size boxing ring
What should the student expect in the 1st class?
Personal time with the instructor on
and responsibilities during their class time.
Do students need to get in shape first?
No. Although the idea of getting in shape before you start training
sounds like something you might want to do, it's completely unnecessary.
That's mainly because our classes are so highly sport-specific,
other training won't really make a significant difference.
You will discover that the workout your child gets will increase their physical
fitness.
What are the advantages of Kids MMA?
It provides framework for you child to gain confidence, and improve their child's
self-esteem.
Martial Arts are more than physical.
They also offer mental focus.
Students learn to concentrate under pressure while directing
their energy in a positive manner.
Carefully planned instructional techniques, utilizing repetition, lead to
memorization skills for the muscles and the mind, increasing a student's
ability to learn.
By increasing a student's ability to learn a student is empowered
mentally, leaving them with a more positive self-image and personal
gratification. This increases self-esteem, generating more capable,
able and confident students.
It often carries over outside the training center, creating more receptive
students academically.
It is for this reason that many pediatricians
encourage children with ADD and ADHD to enroll in martial arts.
Martial Arts students come to understand that anything worth having is worth
working hard for. With this mind-set, students are able to set
goals and achieved them. While the ultimate goal is earning a
Black Belt, along the way the student masters the values of patience,
self-discipline and dedication. They also discover the true
meaning of camaraderie. Training together week after week
brings students (and parents) together, which tends to form strong, lasting
genuine relationships. You soon feel a sense of family.
And just the same as with a successful loving family, respect is the
key. Respect is something that is earned. Students
quickly recognize and respond accordingly to those who earn their respect.
How old must the Student be?
6 years old for our youth groups and 14 for our adult groups. However,
your 12 or 13 year old may be placed in an adult group if they are
more advanced or larger built.
Do students participate in competitions?
Yes, if they want to. But the main goal for our student
is self-confidence/discipline/focus/coordination. Then we will allow
our students to participate in competitions which can boost their self-confidence
and self-esteem.
Students are not obligated to compete but most develop the confidence and ambition
to compete.
Do students have to take a punch?
Yes, but safety is highly emphasized at Cook's Impact Academy, and we want our students
to work at their own comfort level. We try to make our classes
accessible for the average person that wants to learn for fun, fitness,
and self-defense.
So, any contact in our classes is controlled to meet your goals.
Our
spar at a different level than other students.
What Mixed Martial Arts do you teach?
We offer, Boxing, Kickboxing, Shaolin Iron Tiger Kung Fu, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
How long does it take to get a Black Belt?
As long as it takes, no longer and no sooner. It solely depends
on the student. We at Cook's Impact have set scheduled times of
promotion but will never promote a student until they are mentally and
physically prepared.
Unlike grade school and college classes that must pass people through
in a given amount of time, a martial art is boundless. That
means that advancement is achieved only after the student can do a
certain level of technique. However, many styles do establish
minimum times in grade before allowing students to advance to a higher rank.
While such a program may be useful (giving the student time
to be comfortable with the old before tackling the new), be wary of such
schools; often, the delay is a ploy to prolong student payments.
How many children are in a class?
The more the better. This gives the child the opportunity to exploit their
training in all Martial Arts avenues.
Can I watch my child's class?
Yes! But our Instructors expect and demand full attention from
the students. The Academy will stress a very disciplined class.
Will my child be intimidated?
Absolutely not! We are a family at the Academy and will work
together as a family.
Can my child get hurt?
We have created a highly developed style of children's MMA which is in a safe
and relaxing atmosphere. But it is a contact sport in which we
all know accidents can occur.
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes! Some students enjoy private or semi-private sessions but it is not
needed at Cook's Impact. If an individual want's additional
training with one of their favorite instructors they are able to purchase them for
an additional fee.
